Oslo evenings don't all have to end in a nightclub. You can see a show, eat somewhere good, sit in a pub, play darts or find live music — or manage several of those in one evening if you're feeling ambitious.

The National Theatre has a good programme year-round. There is live music in various venues across the city, and the Oslo Opera House is worth visiting even if you are only walking up the roof. Check what's on before you arrive — some things sell out.
The areas around Aker Brygge, Tjuvholmen and central Oslo have a wide range of restaurants. Booking ahead makes sense on weekends. A lot of the city-centre options are within walking distance of one another.
If sitting at a table is enough, Oslo has plenty of bars. If you want something to do between rounds, Red Rabbit has four Smart Darts boards in the middle of the pub. Three can be booked. One is kept for drop-ins. You don't need to know how to play. The screen does the arithmetic and removes at least one traditional darts argument.
Best pub in Oslo? We're probably not the best people to ask — we work here. Our guests have been making a reasonably persuasive case on our behalf, though. Stortingsgata 12, between Nationaltheatret and Stortinget, open most evenings.
